If you ask anybody should there be freebies on essential services, on average the reply you get is ‘NO’ as it totally ruins the service structure. The government (irrespective of state or centre) tends to feel are doing charity towards the people. Actually, it’s not, they do it expecting much bigger return – ‘votes’. May sound blunt but the fact is freebies are given to churn the vote bank. “sahab, siyasat ke logon se aap kuch ummed nahi kar sakte, yahan to phir bhi Kejriwal bijli aur pani par subsidy de raha hai” (Sir, you cannot expect anything from politicians, here still Kejriwal is offering subsidy on electricity and water), these were the words of a shop keeper in Delhi’s Lajpat Rai Market. He was practically correct as politicians know to extract, not give. Those of us who have been Delhi, can never forget the exorbitant electricity bills by DESU and later Delhi Vidyut Board (DVP).
However, the subsidies on electricity is now coming to an end in Delhi as the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejreiwal announced that only those will enjoy subsidy who would psychically apply.
Kejriwal tweeted:

Kejriwal, also launched a phone number 70113 11111 for consumers to give a missed call or send a WhatsApp message to opt for the subsidy and said consumers having up to 200 units of monthly consumption get zero bills while those consuming up to 400 units per month get 50 percent subsidy.
As per data, around 30 lakh households get 100 percent and around 17 lakh who get 50 percent subsidy. Delhi CM informed that around 47 lakh consumers avail of power subsidy.
The same Kejriwal and his party eyeing on the Gujarat Assembly polls, have been assuring the people in the state of free electricity and water. His game has been exposed in Delhi after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) raised the issue of liquor politics and how he gave licenses to liquor mafias or flouted Delhi’s master plan to allow illegal liquor shops, and thekas. However, for Delhi-ites, it has been made mandatory to apply to avail the subsidy either physically or electronically by October 31, 2022, to get a subsidy for the month. Those who do not apply will not get the subsidy but even they can avail the subsidy by applying next month.
