Prime Minister Narendra Modi is perhaps the first Prime Minister to visit Vijay Ghat to pay tributes to Lal Bahadur Shastri on his 119th birth anniversary on Sunday today. He also tweeted to offer his respects to the man who lived a simple life and is regarded as the most honest Prime Ministers of India.
Lal Bahadur Shastri fondly Shastriji, was the second Prime Minister of India and had taken over the reigns after Jawaharlal Nehru passed away. He is also remembered for composing the slogan of “jai jawan, jai kisan”.
Both Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri have their birth anniversaries on the same day ie. October 2nd and both Raj Ghat as well as Vijay Ghat are in the same area. Irony! Till date none of Prime Ministers had cared or found time to pay tributes at the Vijay Ghat. They regularly visit Raj Ghat on all occasions. Congress leaders in particular never found time to pay tributes.
Earlier, in the day, Prime Minister Modi made series of tweets to pay his respects to Lal Bahadur Shastri.

In another tweet, the Prime Minister said:

Perhaps this is where Prime Minister Narendra Modi has cut a niche place for himself in the hearts of millions of countrymen.
