Over 90 people are feared dead in the ill fated Morbi bridge collapse. Several has gone missing. The death toll can go up. In fact, according to officials at the ground zero, all are dead. However, exact number will come in front only after the rescue operations are over.
The bridge collapsed at around 6:30 pm on Sunday today. Many had come for a joy ride on the bridge (a very normal ritual) being a holiday.
Prima facie reports says over capacity tickets were sold. It may sound blunt, it’s a man made tragedy. No capping was done.
Special teams of NDRF, Indian Army, Indian Navy, SDRF, Garur Commandos from Indian Air Force are carring out rescue operations at war footing. Apart from the men in uniform, many locals are volunteering and have jumped to save the people.
Special Helpline number has been opened: 02822 243300.
According to eye witnesses the pull collapsed as much more people had climbed than the permissible number. There were no control on the bridge being over crowded.
