Trinamool to apprise people of its work after 11-years of rule; no mention of ‘Didir Doot’, Sathi-Sree schemes

A high level meeting of the Trinamool leadership was convened comprising of Ministers, MLAs, and members. The meeting was chaired by Supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The party has been at the helm of controversy and find itself in a Catch-22 situation after it’s leaders are being nabbed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) over the illegal appointments of teachers across educational institutions.

Immediately after the meeting a Press Conference was convened by Sudeep Banerjee, the veteran MP from North Kolkata.

In the conference, Trinamool leader informed about the following decisions:

1) Trinamool to go to people with 11-years of works, projects, and schemes of Mamata Banerjee. Supremo herself will visit districts atleast twice in a month. She will be going to Delhi shortly.

2) People will be apprised of the project – ‘Didir Surokhakoboch’.

3) Trinamool will fight out Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) vindictive ploys to nail down their leaders and called false allegations by ED and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

4) Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav will be meeting Mamata Banerjee and discuss various issues ahead of 2024 polls. The veteran MP informed that both Mamata Banerjee and Akhilesh Yadav may convene a joint Press conference.

Well, so far so good but there are a few missing-links those require an introspection – One, Why the party has to think of going to people with what it has done after 11-years of Trinamool rule in the state? The party after winning the Assembly polls last year had boasted by saying people in the state had voted on the basis of developmental work.

Two, the party has focused only on ‘Didir Surokhakoboch’ but not a single mention of the other schemes – ‘Didir Doot’ (Didi’s messenger), ‘Shobuj Sathi’, ‘Swastha Sathi’, ‘Kanyasree’ and likes. Is it because all the other projects especially ‘Didir Doot’ has fallen on the face value and where ever party leaders are visiting are being shown the door as people have clearly expressed that Trinamool has shamed the masses and they will not bring thes party back next time least talk of electing Banerjee in 2024 as Prime Minister of the country.

Three, why Trinamool is shaking hands with Samajwadi Party that itself has no presence in its home turf of Uttar Pradesh? Besides, in the past we have seen how it’s Supremo Late Mulayam Singh Yadav had refused to give space to Banerjee during the seat sharing ahead of polls.

Four, Trinamool MP spoke of party’s presence across the country. Isn’t it a mockery to talk of “acceptance” when people have shown the door to Trinamool in Meghalaya, Tripura, and Goa Assembly polls. Worst, the party faced a debacle in the Sagardighi by-polls.

Remembering Shashi Kapoor on his 85th birth anniversary; not just a wonderful actor but human also

Shashi Kapoor, one of the most handsome faces of Indian cinema who has left an indelible mark with his acting and charm turns 85 on Saturday (today). Not just the Bollywood, but Shashi Kapoor earned immense love and adulation of the West with his numerous English films. Though the actor had predominantly attracted popularity with his cult Bollywood commercial films but he had also acted in a few serious and parallel films (to be discussed later in the story).

Kapoors had a strong affiliation with Kolkata and West Bengal ever since the days his father, Prithwiraj Kapoor, the doyen of Kapoor Khandan (as fondly called while referring to this iconic family also called the first cine family), began his career with the iconic New Theatres. In the due course of time, Shashi Kapoor, developed a fondness for Bengali cinema. Shashi Kappor shared a wonderful relationship with Great Master Satyajit Ray who had also penned a couple of scripts of Ivory films.

Shashi-Kapoor

Kapoors since decades had been entertaining the masses – The journey began with Prithwiraj Kapoor fondly called ‘Papa Kapoor’ who passed on the legacy onto his sons Raj Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor and Shashi Kapoor. They had passed on the legacy of ‘Kapoor Khandan’ subsequently to the next generation of Kapoors.

23TH_SHASHI

I recall first watching Shashi Kapoor on TV as we in our childhood was not much exposed to films like today’s generation but we had a great companion (if I may call so) and that was the television which was the ultimate platform for entertainment and many of us I am sure will agree that our schooling to cinema (whatever we have learnt or developed within) had began with this iconic “idiot box’ in early 80’s. Watching this actor on Chitrahaar, Sunday cinema and so on…I recall hearing him during the Film Festival when he had shared so many personal memories about his family, brothers and the cine industry. It was during one such interview Shashi Kapoor had said for him, the ultimate romantic hero was elder brother Shammi Kapoor with his westernized looks and acting. He had also said that “now watching my acting on screen, I feel ashamed as they look so childish” a confession from a real actor who was whimsical of his characters and perhaps this why Shashi Kapoor did not stay obsessed with the cult Commercial Cinema but acted in many parallel cinema and few experimental cinema (a wave that took cinema by its stride during early 70’s and late 80’s).

Shashi-Kapoor-3

Shashi Kapoor and English films especially in British and American films, under the iconic Merchant Ivory productions run by Ismail Merchant and James Ivory that had been his second family as their association had grown stronger. Shashi Kapoor acted in numerous films under the banner like The Householder (1963), Shakespeare Wallah (1965) (opposite his sister-in-law Felicity Kendal), Bombay Talkie (1970) and Heat and Dust (1982) in which he co-starred with his wife Jennifer Kendal, The Deceivers (1988) and Side Streets (1998). Apart from Ivory productions, he had acted in other British and American films like ‘Matter Of Innocence’ (1967)), ‘Siddhartha’ (1972), ‘Sammy and Rosie Get Laid’ (1987), and Muhafiz (1994). James Ivory directed Kapoor in the first Merchant Ivory production The Householder, then in Shakespeare-Wallah, Bombay Talkie and Heat and Dust while Ismail Merchant directed him in In Custody (1993).

It was during late 50’s Shashi Kapoor met English actress Jennifer Kendal in then Calcutta now Kolkata. in 1956 while both were working for their respective theatre groups. Shashi was both assistant stage manager as well as an actor for his father’s theatre group, Prithvi Theatre. Geoffrey Kendal’s Shakespearean group was also present at the same time in Calcutta and Jennifer was Geoffrey’s daughter. They fell in love and after facing initial opposition from the Kendals got married to Jenifer in July 1958. Both of them had acted in a number of films together. In 1984, Jenifer Kendal died due to cancer. Shashi Kapoor loved Jenifer immensely and did not re-marry.

Both of them were blessed with three children – Kunal Kapoor (who had acted in Vijeta), Karan Kapoor (he too had acted in a few films like Loha and Saltanat but he is most remember for his modelling with Bombay Dying in 80’s) and daughter Sanjna (she too has acted in a few films like Hero Hiralal. She took charge of the Prithvi Theatre which was established on 5 November 1978 in Mumbai. In the recent years, we have Karishma (Lolo) and Karina (Bebo), daughters of Randhir Kapoor (Raj Kapoor’s son) and Ranbir Kapoor, son of another Kapoor superstar Late Rishi Kapoor rising to the top of popularity in Bollywood. Ranbir unlike his father, who had predominantly acted in Bollywood flicks have already acted in numerous serious and good cinema.

Being a true actor he showed guts and courage to criticize the typical Hindi cinema which had been showing things that had nothing to do with reality rather many impractical and abnormal things. It was this quest for good cinema Shashi Kapoor acted in films like – ‘Muhafiz’ (1994), ‘In Custody’ (1993), ‘Junoon’ (1978), ‘Utsav’ (1984) to name a few. Also he had produced many of these. He also produced 36 Chowringhee Lane (1981) directed by Aparna Sen. His wife Jenifer Kendal had done a wonderful acting in this film which revolves around a lonely Anglo lady residing in Kolkata who teaches conversation English in a reputed convent school in the city and subsequently gets cheated by her two ex-students whom she had trusted immensely. However, Aparna Sen bagged National Award for the film but Jenifer did not receive any award which had made him upset and he had shared his feelings in one of his interview on Doordarshan.

Shashi Kapoor had produced and directed a fantasy film titled Ajooba which was a Indo-Russian project and starred his frequent co-star Amitabh Bachchan and nephew Rishi Kapoor in the lead. The film however could not make money on the box-office.

It was this fondness for Shashi Kapoor, Great Master Satyajit Ray had taken him in Satyajit Ray Presents (directed by Sandip Ray for Doordarshan in 1985), “Kissa Kathmandu Ka” which was based on his Feluda adventure story – “Joto Kelenkari Kathmandu Te” and Shashi Kapoor played Feluda. As per the details of Feluda, Ray had always sketched him as a fitness freak and always slim and agile but Shashi Kapoor had put on weight and looked bulky. Still, Ray had casted him as Feluda in his production. This explains the relationship Shashi Kapoor shared with the Satyajit Ray.

Shashi-Kapoor-l

He was not keeping well since long and had bid adieu to films in late 90’s with Side Streets being his last film. On 20 July 2012, Shashi Kapoor underwent a cataract surgery at Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai. Shashi Kapoor was admitted in Kokilaben Hospital on December 3, 2017 reportedly for chest infection. On December 4, 2017, he breathed his last at around 5:30 pm. The famous lines from his film ‘Kala Parthar’ (1979), ‘ek rasta hai zindagi… jo tham gaye to kuch nahin…’ will be the most befitting lines to pay him tributes…

Nonsense Talk News pays its respects to this great actor and a wonderful man…

Delhi Cong Chief Anil Chaudhary stages protest march demanding JPC

Political corridors in Delhi is brewing with immense agression as the opposition parties had been demanding a reply from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Parliament over what they call is giving a walkover to the Adani inspite of enough evidence of money laundering.

On Thursday, Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) Chief Anil Chaudhary, staged a protest march outside Lieutenant Governor’s (LG) residence demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC). Speaking to the Press, DPCC Chief said, “Why the government is finding it so difficult to constitute a JPC, we are not saying or accusing BJP but asking a probe into the allegations of the Adani”. “Does that mean Adani and BJP are same?”, added Chaudhary.

Anil Chaudhary made series of tweets demanding JPC.

Parliament has been witnessing a logjam for fourth consecutive day and over the demand of a JPC. However, some of the parties especially like the Trinamool and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) who are shouting for JPC has already lost it’s face in West Bengal and Delhi respectively, after the Encouragement Directorate (ED) had unearthed crores of unaccounted assets from their top leaders including ministers. None other than Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia is facing charges of money laundering and helping the liquor mafias to open shops and thekas in Delhi.

Kaustav Bagchi’s arrest confirms ‘material’ in Deepak Ghosh’s book; Controversial but true

Is Trinamool scared of the skeletons coming out of the closet? Or is it aunt and nephew oth are finally finding it hard to attract crowds to attract to their rhetorics? The recent defeat of Trinamool in North East has exposed their face that has totally been exposed. The arrest of Congress spokesperson Kaustav Bagchi on Saturday morning for his alleged comments against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Trinamool Supremo Mamata Banerjee is not doing it for the first time, she had shown high handedness and asked her police to confiscate the books penned by former top cop Nazrul Islam and Deepak Ghosh (the book that was refered by Bagchi at a press conference and warning Trinamool of exposing the facts.)

On Saturday early morning Bagchi was picked up from his residence by the Burtolla police station. They also conducted a raid at Bagchi’s residence at Barrackpore in North 24 Parganas district in West Bengal. Since then nitizens on social media platforms have opened a verbal war against Trinamool and Supremo Mamata Banerjee who always speaks of ethics and morals but fail to follow the basic tenets of humanity.

Bagchi, a lawyer had reacted sharply and allegedly criticised the Bengal Chief Minister and CM and Trinamool Supremo Mamata Banerjee for her “personal attacks” on West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee President Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury after the Congress’ win in the Sagardighi bypolls.

Taking a pick at the Trinamool Supremo, Bagchi said, he will not bow down to the threats and will expose the party. Bagchi has been booked under several sections of the IPC including 120(B) (criminal conspiracy), 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 506 (criminal intimidation) and other sections.

The legal cell of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has assured full co-operation and decided to stand beside him. Former Mayor and senior CPI(M) leader Bikash Ranjan Chowdhury is fighting the case for Bagchi. Will senior Congres leaders like Kapil Sibbal and Manu Singhvi still stand up to fight cases on behalf of Trinamool and Supremo? If they do then they have no value for own party member.

Rajdhani Express began its journey this day in 1969; saga of nostalgia

Rajdhani Express turns 54.

The first Rajdhani ran between Howrah and New Delhi on March 3, 1969. Many things have changed since it’s inception. Both the interior as well as the exterior have changed drastically.

On the 50th birth anniversary of the Rajdhani Express, the Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) had organised a Special treat for passengers travelling by 12301 Howrah-New Delhi Rajdhani Passengers travelling in AC-II and AC-III tier were served fish fry or vegetable cutlets depending on their preferences alongwith rosogollas(Bengali sweet). As a special treat, the continental menu was served to First AC passengers alongwith Caramel Custard.

Debashis Chandra, group general manager (east), IRCTC will be in-charge of entire programme. He is the son of Ratan Chandra Chandra, the first Rajdhani’s catering inspector (My father who traveled by Rajdhani Express since its launching was very fond of Chandra) I too have vivid memories of Chandra coming and asking how was the food personally, always with a smile. He used to give toffies and chocolates. Those were the golden era of Rajdhani Express. My favourite was the chair-car days. Ratan Chandra Chandra passed away in 2016.

Rajdhani Express has come a long way since then and during these years, many new trains enroute to various cities were introduced like – Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express, Guwahati Rajdhani Express, Bhubaneswar Rajdhani Express, Mumbai Rajdhani Express etc. Sealdah Rajdhani was also introduced a few years ago.

Today Rajdhani Express may have lost its glory and dignity but in ghose days it used to considered as an elite train.

Tripura, Meghalaya & Sagardighi defeat expose Trinamool’s tall claims

Trinamool Supremo during campaigning in Meghalaya remarked she was surprised to find rhythmic and musical names of people and villages, she also made a sound “kakoooo…oooo…”. The problem is politicians explore “beautiful people or places” just before elections and people understand this better today. It’s because of this, Trinamool has lost its opportunity in the north East.

In Tripura Trinamool failed to open its account and stood at zero seats. Both Supremo and nephew turned general secretary, Abhishek Banerjee made tall claims of the presence of Trinamool and its win in Tripura but they failed to understand the mood and sentiments of people.

The next state is Meghalaya, the party has won only five seats. Once again, both Supremo and Abhishek Banerjee made frequent visits by wasting money. Trinamool made tall claims of winning but today when the results have come it’s clear that the party has lost on the face value.

Back home in West Bengal, by polls took place in Murshidabad’s Sagardighi. Trinamool lost the seat to Left Front and Congress alliance. Sagardighi is quite significant as this constituency is Muslim dominated and Mamata Banerjee is known for her Muslim appeasement but the results are enough to prove that she has lost the faith and trust of the Muslims after what she did with Naushad Siddiqui. Bayron Biswas defeated Trinamool with record margin.

The results are enough to explain that Trinamool is fast losing its reach among the people in the state that had brought her in 2011. Also, the results should be a warning and a wake up call for Mamata Banerjee and her party before the Panchayat Polls knocking at the door. Trinamool must do an introspection and find out why people are suddenly drifting apart which is certainly not a healthy development.

Bengali remembers Abdus, Rafiq, Sofiur, Barkat and Jabbar with tears on Feb 21

In the famous words of Kobiguru Rabindranath Tagore, “moder gorob, moder aashaa, aamori Bangla bhashaa… ” (Bengali language is our pride… Bengali is our identity…)

February 21st is a very significant day, its regarded as the International Mother Language Day but for Bengalies all over this has immense importance as on this day, in 1952 on the streets of then East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) people protested the imposition of Urdu language upon the large number of Bengali speaking Muslim community. The diktat by the Pakistan government had spread huge uproar among the students of Dhaka University. They decided to defy the order and take out a protest march.

The Government of the Dominion of Pakistan in 1948, ordained as part of Islamization and Arabization of East Bengal that Urdu language would become the sole national language. It said that the Bengali writing alternatively in Arabic script or Roman script that was also called the ‘Romanisation of Bengali’ or Arabic as the state language of the whole of Pakistan was also proposed.

Abdus Salam, Rafiq Uddin Ahmed, Sofiur Rehman, Abdul Barkat and Abdul Jabbar along with many others protested on the streets of then Dhaka. The agitation took that was dormant till then took momentum and it turned out into Bengali Language Movement.

Since then February 21 is observed as a solemn day. The day is also called ‘Omor Ekushey’ (Immortal 21). Poets, writers, and philosophers over the years have written songs, poems, and even created dramas as a mark of respect to these martyrs who raised their voices against the autocratic diktat and protected the respect and dignity of the Bengali language.

“amar bhai r rokte ranga ekushey February, aami ki bhulte pari…” (February 21st is red with my brother’s blood, can I ever forget the day…), mark the day.

Praises going overboard! Bengal Governor compares Mamata Banerjee with icons like Radhakrishnan, Milton & Kalam

Let’s keep aside paintings, songs and not to forget poems like ‘epang opang jhopang…potang…dang dang…” the masterpieces by Trinamool Supremo Mamata Banerjee, what should we call a Chief Minister who says, “Will offer stone chips to PM Modi in Bengal” or “Shall slap him”? Or are these very civilised words? The issue has come up as Governor CV Ananda Bose complimenting Banerjee being conferred upon with DLitt by St Xavier’s University.

Few observations – A blunt compliment from the Governor for a political head is dangerous. This means the Governor either has no clue of the ‘jungle raaj’ in the state or least interested in the plight of people. It’s indeed scary as Trinamool is using Bose as a ‘reply’ or sand bag. From past Governors – MK Narayanan, Keshari Nath Tripathi to Dhankar, Banerjee had problems. Is this a political posturing? Trinamool has a least interest for administrative chairs, why still, Bose is so appreciative? Many missing links…

Re-joinder: Governor Bose has compared Trinamool Supremo with names like Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, Vajpayee, Winston Churchill… Dr Radhakrishnan and John Milton (the worst comparisons …perhaps). Supremo called Park Street gangrape “choto ghotona” (petty incident) and sent the Investigating Officer in exile posting for bringing facts. She could identify ‘Maoists’ just by seeing – Tumpa and Moushumi Koyal to Shiladittya and even a college student in TV show Taniya Bhardwaj. Gave the slogan ‘bodla noy badal chai’ (not revenge but change), mere slogan. Never complimented Barun Biswas, the man (a real hero) stood against marathon rapes in Sutia. No ‘bhushan or shree’ awards. Height of shamelessness when she introduced compensation for rape victims – more money if victim is young. Never heard a word when oppositions are attacked. Least talk of her schemes – ‘Shree and Sathi’, I have seen in Kolkata, interacted with incumbents and parents. Not going into political inefficiency, she has ruined health, education and governance.

Rejoinder: Honestly, I wanted to stay away from this too in volumes but a journo instigated me on Mamata Banerjee. Infact, I know I am more than a vocal, aggressive and blunt critic of Trinamool and Supremo. I can’t write everything on the public domain why, when and what has turned me into a critic but all I can say and those who know Bengal thick and thin or follow knows whatever I write, say in my LIVES on #nonsensetalknews are nothing but truth. The fact is people who today are against her were once the biggest admirers of her as they ushered-in immense faith in her but she lost it all to satisfy, appease and please vested interests. Eg. She called Park Street gamgrape as “choto ghotona” (petty incident) as the main accused Kader Khan was the boyfriend and fiance of actress turned Trinamool Nusrat Jahan. Numerous instances. All this gradually ditanced her from the people who simply regarded as Goddess. In 2011, when she came to power, people had immense expectations but she failed on the face value to keep their confidence. Ask locals across Bengal, and you will hear it yourself. She not only ruined the state but maligned humanity, may talk big on women safety but actually did nothing to protect the dignity of women… Talk to people in the state, find out yourself.

74th Republic Day marks many firsts including Indian guns

India celebrates 74th Republic Day. As per ritual President Draupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh alongwith other council of ministers payed their tributes to martyrs at the National War Memorial at India Gate.

The parade rolled down the Rajpath renamed as Kartavya Path. Apart from this there were a few firsts in this year’s Republic Day.

1) First Republic Day parade for President Draupadi Murmu who took over a few month back.

2) For the first time 21 gun salute were given by guns made in India under the Make In India project. Earlier, the guns used were made in Britain and outside.

3) The women camel contingent of Border Security Force (BSF) – ‘Mahila Prahari’, walked past the Rajpath or Kartavya Path.

4) This year Egyptian President was the chief guest on the Republic Day. The Egyptian Army participated in the Republic Day parade. This was for the first time a foreign army contingent walked past the Rajpath or Kartavya Path.

A total of 23 tableaux – 17 from states and Union territories and six from various ministries and departments – depicting India’s vibrant cultural heritage, and economic and social progress were part of the parade on the Kartavya Path.

Like always, this year too the tablues would be parked at the Red Fort till January 31, 2023. However, this year there is some changes in this ritual. Tourism has been merged and a festival has been organised. The Delhi Traffic Police has issued an advisory as it said being a tourism event, many politicians – MPs, ministers may visit the venue. This means traffic will be hampered and commuters may face traffic snarls.

The traffic advisory: Commuters have been asked to avoid the roads in and around Red Fort. Daryaganj or Netaji Subhash Road, Lothian Road (GPO and Kashmere Gate side), Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Road, Hanuman Mandir, Yamuna Bazar.

However, if you are to catch trains at the Old Delhi Station or busses at Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT) then plan accordingly as the roads in and around these places may be largely affected by traffic snarls. To avoid these jams, set out early or else you may miss the train.
