A class X girl from Rajbongshi (Adivasi) community gets gangraped and killed in Kaliyaganj, North Dinajpur district of West Bengal. The girl went for tuitions and had gone missing on April 20, 2023. She could not be traced the entire night.  Her dead body was recovered from a pond in the area on Friday morning by locals. Her cloths were torn. It was clear from the marks that she had been brutally gangraped. The girl is the resident of Gangua village near Saheb Ghata in the district’s Paloibari area.

On Saturday, the villagers had gathered in the area in demand of justice but they forgot that Chief Minister also the Police Minister in the state is Mamata Banerjee who had called the Park Street gangrape as “choto ghotona” (petty incident) and the Investigating Officer in the case, Damayanti Sen in exile posting because she dared to prove that Suzzette Jordan was gangraped on the night before and that the accused was none other than Javed Khan, then boyfriend and fiancé actress Nusrat Jahan (later Trinamool MP). The inhuman police of Mamata Banerjee had unleashed brutality on the villagers. They did not spare the women too. Worst, the deadbody of the victim was dragged like cattle.

The village had turned into battle ground after the incident. The family members alleged that the administration had tried to cajole them to sit for a settlement. This is nothing new in Bengal today as the compensation depends on the age of rape victim and Chief Minister is very fond of settling such things by offering employment to the family members because she feels everything can be purchased with money even dignity of women. On Saturday, since early morning, Mamata Banerjee was seen wooing the Muslim voters at the Eid function on Red Road. She forgot that a minor girl had been gangraped and killed.

The villagers took to street and protested against the inefficient state government that has totally failed to protect the dignity of women. Rapes, gangrapes, molestations, and stalking in broad daylight are enough to prove how efficient Banerjee’s government is. The villagers accused the police to be busy making security arrangements ahead of Nephew turned party General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee visiting the area next month for campaigning in his much hyped vanity van.

State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Dr Sukanta Majumdar had visited the area on Saturday and assured villagers that guilty would be punished and this incident will be heard in the Parliament. The villagers demanded death penalty for the rapists who did not hesitate to kill a class X girl after brutally raping. Majumdar while talking to the reporters said, “We won’t let the rapists and murderers go scot free. The marks on the body are enough to explain what had happened.” “I have never heard that such marks are caused due to intake of poison as the administration is trying to prove,” added the state BJP President.

Taking to Twitter, Suvendu Adhikari wrote, “Another rape & murder of a Minor Girl in WB. The dead body of a Class X student; belonging to the Rajbongshi Community, from Kaliaganj; Uttar Dinajpur was found in such condition. Days after Tribal ladies were punished with atonement ritual, this happens to a Rajbongshi girl.”

BJP MP Locket Chatterjee on Saturday demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and claimed the Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo is not doing justice to her post. 

Earlier today, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) also took cognisance of the matter and said it would send a fact-finding team to conduct an inquiry.

A statement issued by the NCPCR chief Priyank Kanoongo’s office read, “We have received information about the gang-rape incident and murder of a girl child in North Dinajpur in West Bengal. We have received a lot of information from many sources. It is a heinous murder, and we are going to investigate it. I myself will go to North Dinajpur with my team”.
