Congratulations! Rishi Sunak on becoming PM of Britain, history created

The irony of fate! The British race that once called Indians as ‘natives’ or ‘blacks’ and dominated Indians like they did to other colonies, would now be ruled by Indian-origin Rishi Sunak. Indeed, a big day in history of not only Britain but for India too.

On Tuesday, when India was celebrating Deepawali, the festival of lights, Sunak created history. He becomes the first Indian origin Prime Minister of Britain. He is the first person of Indian origin who has reached the post of Prime Minister of Britain. Not only this, Rishi Sunak is the first Hindu PM of Christian majority UK. Sunak is also Britain’s first non-white prime minister.

In fact, Penny Mordent has withdrawn her name from the race for British PM, clearing the way for Sunak. Several prominent Conservative party lawmakers had supported Sunak, leaving Johnson’s camp. These include former Home Minister Priti Patel, cabinet ministers James Cleverly and Nadeem Jahavi. Priti Patel herself is a former British minister of Indian origin who resigned from her post last month after Liz Truss was elected prime minister. He said the Conservative Party should give Sunak a chance to lead.

Rishi Sunak said, ‘It is the greatest privilege of my life that I have got the opportunity to serve the party I love and serve the country. I thank Liz Truss for the service she has rendered to the nation. He served with dignity amidst many changes. I am honored to have the support of my parliamentary colleagues and to be elected as leader of the Conservative and Unionist parties”.

The entire world has been congratulating Sunak on becoming Prime Minister. He will be addressing the Press later in the day according the Britain Standard Time (BST). Former Prime Minister Lizz Truss has also congratulated Sunak. Truss will also convene a meeting later in the day.
