Speculations over new party ahead of Ghulam Nabi Azad’s public meeting on Sept 4

Speculations rising high if former Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad will announce his new party from the public rally on September 4, 2022. This is going to be first public interaction by Azad with locals after quitting Congress and accusing Rahul Gandhi for the devastation of the party. Azad’s public meeting will be held on the same day when RaGa will hold a rally in Delhi – ‘Mehngai par Halla Bol’ on price rise.

With the timing of Azad’s launch event in Jammu and Kashmir coinciding with Gandhi’s rally, it will be seen if there are more fireworks on the day the former Congress chief addresses the mega event at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan.

Azad has said his resignation letter was just a “tip of the iceberg”, indicating that he would step up his attack on the Gandhis in the coming days.

He has already stated that he would float his own party in Jammu and Kashmir soon, where assembly elections are due to be announced.

Ahead of Azad’s Sunday rally in Jammu’s Sainik farms, there has been a spate of resignations in the Jammu and Kashmir Congress.

Sixty-four more leaders, including former deputy chief minister Tara Chand, tendered their resignation and joined the Ghulam Nabi Azad camp on Tuesday, leaving the unit of the national party in the Union Territory in tatters.

The former Union minister had targeted Rahul Gandhi in his five-page resignation letter to Sonia Gandhi last Friday.

Azad had launched a stinging attack on Rahul Gandhi describing him as “immature” and “childish” and accusing the leadership of “foisting a non-serious individual” at the helm of the party.

Azad mentioned Rahul Gandhi seven times, accusing him of running the party through a “new coterie of inexperienced sycophants”.

Azad, 73, who ended his nearly five-decade association with the Congress, also attacked party chief Sonia Gandhi for applying the “remote control model that demolished the institutional integrity of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government” to the party.

He also reminded Sonia Gandhi that she was just a “nominal figurehead” and all the important decisions were being taken by Rahul Gandhi or “rather worse his security guards and PAs”.

Azad slammed Rahul Gandhi’s conduct within the party and singled out his action of tearing up a government ordinance in “full glare” of the media.

“One of the most glaring examples of this immaturity was the tearing up of a government ordinance in the full glare of the media by Shri Rahul Gandhi,” he said.

“The said ordinance was incubated in the Congress Core Group and subsequently unanimously approved by the Union Cabinet presided over by the Prime Minister of India and duly approved even by the President of India.

“This ‘childish’ behaviour completely subverted the authority of the Prime Minister and Government of India,” said Azad, who served as Health Minister in the UPA-II government.

Dynasty rule in Congress ruins the party, needs a leader

Congress that once used to be the primary political party in the country has not only lost its reach but vote bank too. This has predominantly happened as Congress failed to read the nerves of its voters, loyal for decades. Rahul Gandhi has failed miserably as party president as RaGa has never been interested in the active politics. Inspite of his sister Priyanka always been interested in politics, the party never thought of fetching her for important positions like party president.

Another reason why the party is on the verge of ruining is its ‘dynasty politics’, the cult structure of Congress as members can’t see any name beyond the Gandhi’s. On Friday, veteran Congressman and Indira loyalist Ghulam Nabi Azad called party election as “farce and sham”. There is nothing wrong if veterans expect a prized position within the party. Infact, the party needs a leader and not a poster-boy.

On Saturday, veteran Congressman Mallikarjun Kharge said, they are trying to convince RaGa to accept party presidentship as there are no face pan-India who could promote and carry forward Congress legacy. He further said, Rahul Gandhi is himself not keen in becoming party president but the members have unanimously decided to request RaGa to become president.

This in itself once again explains the mindset of Congress members that cannot see any name beyond the Gandhi’s. Perhaps, people like Jyotiraditya Scindia or Sachin Pilot can give a better leadership to the party. However, Kharge did not mention the name of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra even once whom we all saw doing a great job as Uttar Pradesh incharge during the state Assembly Elections in 2022. Priyanka reached out to a large number of women with her “beti hoon, lad sakti hoon” campaign.

Congress today, needs a leader who can help the party to pass the litmus test, and not a poster-boy for pan-India publicity.

Ghulam Nabi Azad accuses Congress high-command for devastation, says elections are “farce and sham”

A very big statement from someone of the stature of Ghulam Nabi Azad who had been with the Congress party since the days of Indira Gandhi and had witnessed numerous ups and downs not just in Congress but all the political parties. On Friday today, Azad, left the party. The veteran Congress leader blamed Rahul Gandhi for the present devastating condition of Congress. He said the high command was not concerned to revive the party.

Azad had sent a letter to the interim Congress president, Sonia Gandhi stating he wants to quit. The veteran Congress leader has quit from all the posts of the party.

Well, the big question is why Azad slammed the Congress elections by calling it “farce and sham”? Being an old party loyalists its nothing wrong to expect a prized position within the party. Speculations are making rounds, will Azad join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
